Connecting the Disconnected

Despite all the differences that presumably set us apart, it’s no secret that we, Armenians and Azerbaijanis, share common mentalities, traditions, cuisine and etc. Even after two decades of mutual isolation some of these similarities are widely known in both societies, yet a number of commonplace issues have never been addressed. By launching these series of photo stories we aim to bring up a topic that has been rarely discussed before: the overlooked, yet very obvious convergences between our capital cities of Baku and Yerevan. Indeed, after sharing a common Soviet past these two cities culturally resemble each other more than one might imagine. Unfortunately, we have very little idea about how the capital ‘nextdoor’ looks like and more importantly, what problems people ‘on the other side’ face. We will attempt to cover different aspects of life in Yerevan and Baku, trying to capture various issues including public transport, pollution and etc as well as important characteristic features of these two cities.
